GeoClip™ installation instructions

The following instructions provide an overview of how to use the GeoClip™.

Follow this link to view an actual installation in MPEG format.

1. After completion of borehole drilling and before u-bend insertion, attach any required anchors or iron (sinker) bars at the base of each vertical heat exchanger u-bend.
2. GeoClips™ can be attached while the u-bend pipe is laid out on the ground, or the GeoClips™ can be attached during insertion while the u-bend pipe is being uncoiled from a reel as shown to the right.

3. GeoClips™ are packaged with the spring mechanism locked in a compressed position with a plastic retaining clip.  It is recommended that GeoClips™ be attached every 10 feet along the u-bend with the first GeoClip™ being attached 10 feet above the base of the u-bend.

4. Snap each pipe of the u-bend to the GeoClip™

Note: Must position each GeoClip™ so that the spring wire is facing upward and the tremie hooks are facing towards the installer.

5. Next, snap tremie pipe into GeoClip's™ tremie hooks.
Note: Must use a smooth hard surface tremie pipe such as polyethylene pipe or flush joint pvc pipe.  Rubber hose tremie pipe is not recommended.  Use a 1" tremie pipe for 3/4" u-bend pipe.  Use a 1" or 1 1/4" tremie pipe for a 1" u-bend.

6. Remove the plastic retaining clip from the GeoClip™ before insertion into the borehole.  The tremie pipe will keep the spring mechanism  in a compressed position as shown.

7. Install u-bend, tremie, and GeoClips™.
8. Pump high solids bentonite grout or suitable grouting materials through the tremie pipe to the bottom of the borehole.
9. Pull tremie pipe out of the borehole as grout level rises, but keep tremie pipe below the top of the grout level within the borehole.
10. The GeoClip's spring mechanism is tripped as the tremie pipe is pulled out of the GeoClip's tremie hooks, thus positioning the u-bend pipes against the borehole wall directly across from one another.
